Main services provided by Job Centres
Self Employment

A range of options were available to those who were considering self-employment:

Courses were provided by internal and external sources

Where appropriate, advice was available from internal staff

Clients received assistance with grant applications

Finance was available from Glanbia Development and Investment Funds (£7.5m/9.5 Euros)

Retirement

Where a client was considering retirement, the following were provided:

External courses

Internal Advice

Training
Training was available for those availing of voluntary redundancy

There was interaction with National Training Agency [FAS] on availability of jobs

The key success areas in terms of training provision to clients of the Job Centres were:

Lorry Driving;

Forklift driving;

Health and Safety;

Welding;

Specific skills.

The experience of the Job Centres is that training is a low cost intervention which can have beneficial impact.

Job sourcing
For those that wished to find employment outside of Glanbia, the Job Centres provided the following services:

FAS advertisements were disseminated on a weekly basis;

Job opportunities in local and national newspapers were displayed;

Internal positions were also advertised;

Presentations and discussions were held with local enterprises;

Representation were made on behalf of individual clients.
