Organisation and structure
The Resource Business has approximately 15 staff members who manage, coordinate and delivery support to staff facing change in their careers within eircom and to those seeking support in developing their careers outside of the company. This includes 10 facilitators who provide support directly to staff. The facilitators who were all recruited from inside the company have a diverse mix of experience and ability. Their core skills and competences include being:

Customer focused

Commited to high performance and results-driven

Team players

Excellent communicators

Innovative and creative

In addition to the internal facilitators, external supports are contracted as required. External supports are likely to be used in situations where specialist knowledge and expertise does not exist within the organisation. For example, external specialists are contracted to provide services to employees who wish to set up their own enterprises.

The Resource Business operates from thirteen centres around the country known as Opportunity Centres.

Communications
An important aspect of the Resource Business is its communications with existing and potential clients. This includes contributing regular articles to eircom's internal monthly magazine and producing a Resource Business magazine to keep staff informed of the supports available to them.

The articles regularly feature staff who have made significant changes to their careers either internally within eircom or externally.

A freefone service is available to employees and an intranet web site is also being planned for launch in 2001.

Services provided by Resource Business
A number of services are provided by the Resource Business to staff members depending on whether they wish to remain within the company or seek alternative careers outside of eircom.
The term "Pathways" is frequently used within the Resource Business to describe the options which are open to staff members. For example, the External Employment Pathway describes a seriew of supports and services available to staff members who wish to pursue employment opportunities outside eircom.
The following pages describe the major pathways and their associated supports available from the Resource Business.
