The mobility centre established for a redundancy situation will provide a range of services that will differ from the mobility centre set up to develop and implement strategic policies to encourage employee mobility throughout the company. |

Career planning
|
This would involve the company providing advice to employees on future career planning based on a thorough assessment of the client's personality, educational attainments, skill levels, etc. The centre would seek to develop a range of career options which the client then would further research. The centre would provide information on education and training providers who could supply the skills necessary to effect a career change. The centre would provide a range of personality and psychometric tests to enable the employee to make informed decisions on future career choices.

| Counselling |
The provision of counselling to employees has the potential to be a vital service and one which could play an important role in enhancing the reputation of the mobility centre. Counselling is particularly important when dealing with employees who are being made redundant or who need to be re-deployed elsewhere within the organisation. Job loss is a very stressful time for employees and the mobility centre can assist these employees to develop the confidence to face the future. Counselling may also be very valuable for new employees to help them adapt to a new organisation and its culture.

| Job search |
The mobility centre can advise employees on job search techniques for new career alternatives either within the organisation or externally. Services in this regard can include CV preparation and interview skills training. The centre can also assist with the identification of new job opportunities internally within the company or externally within the labour market. The mobility centre might also contain a library with job advertisements clipped from national and local newspapers.

The provision of training to clients is another important service which the mobility centre can provide. The training provision can cover a number of areas such as interview skills training or new enterprise development. Equally, the mobility centre can provide personal development training which may be necessary for employees in a company undergoing rapid organisational change. Related to the provision of training is the identification of skill deficiencies among clients and the provision of information on courses/programmes which can will rectify these deficiencies. Some mobility centres can provide advice to clients on life-long learning opportunities.

The mobility centre can provide a wide range of information and advice to employees. The centre could, for example, provide information on tax and social security entitlements. It could also provide information on pre-retirement courses for employees and their spouses. The centre could maintain a database of internal and external job opportunities and providers of education/training programmes.
